Every Child Deserves a Strong Start — Help Us Give Them One
Every child deserves a strong start. Not just the ones born in Constantia or Camps Bay. The ones in Hanover Park too. The children who wake up every morning in one of Cape Town's most under-resourced communities, whose parents work two jobs to keep the lights on, who have never been to the Waterfront or seen the aquarium or held a book that belongs to them. Those children deserve the same early learning, the same stimulation, the same foundation for a bright future — and right now, they are not getting it.
That is what the Dr. Phil-afel Foundation is here to change. And we need your help to do it.
Meet the Children of Hanover Park
The Dr. Phil-afel Foundation's Early Childhood Development programme runs every week in Hanover Park, Cape Town. Trained practitioners lead learning sessions for children aged 2 to 10 — sessions filled with colour, movement, storytelling, counting, and the kind of focused attention that changes the trajectory of a young life. Children who might otherwise spend their days without structured stimulation are learning to communicate, to problem-solve, to imagine.
Monthly educational outings take these same children to places they have never been — nature reserves, libraries, museums, markets. Experiences that build vocabulary, curiosity, and the quiet confidence that comes from knowing the world is bigger than your street and that you belong in it. These are the moments that early childhood development researchers call "enriched environments" — and for children in Hanover Park, they are rare, precious, and entirely dependent on community funding.
Our fundraising goal is R75,000. Every rand funds learning materials, transport, facilitator time, and programme infrastructure. If you have ever wanted to make a tangible difference in the life of a child — not in the abstract, but specifically, measurably, right now — this is where your money goes.
Zacri's Story — A Dream Worth Backing
Zacri grew up in Hanover Park with a dream of becoming a chef. Not because someone told him he could. Because he looked at the world and decided that is who he wanted to be. He needs support to complete his matric — the schooling fees, the study materials, the mentorship to get him across the finish line. Without it, the dream stalls. With it, a young man from Hanover Park becomes a chef, a taxpayer, a role model for the next generation of children in his community.
The Dr. Phil-afel Foundation is backing Zacri. We are asking you to join us.
Gavin's Journey — Rebuilding After the System
Gavin is rebuilding his life. After years in the correctional system, he is doing what most people in his position are not supported to do — reintegrating into his community, rebuilding relationships, finding a path forward. Community reintegration is hard. It is harder without support. The Dr. Phil-afel Foundation provides the structure, the mentorship, and the social scaffolding that makes the difference between a person who reoffends because they have nowhere else to go, and a person who becomes a contributing, stable member of their community.
Your donation funds that scaffolding.
